Buulo-burte, Somalia (SONNA) – In a coordinated offensive, the Somali National Army (SNA) and local forces from the Hiran region killed at least 10 Khawarij militants during a targeted operation in the El-dheere area. The operation, conducted approximately 8 kilometers from Halgan town, successfully dismantled a militant stronghold in the latest push to degrade extremist networks in central Somalia.
The operation marks another strategic victory in the government’s sustained campaign against the Khawarij, a term Somali authorities use to refer to the extremist group Al-Shabaab. Military officials praised the precision of the mission, which was carried out with intelligence support and cooperation from local communities.
“This operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of our forces and the unwavering support of the Somali people in confronting terrorism,” said a military spokesperson. “We will continue to pursue these elements until they are completely eradicated from our country.”
The Hiran region has been a focal point of counterterrorism efforts, with joint SNA and clan-based militias conducting frequent operations to disrupt militant hideouts and supply routes. Authorities attribute recent successes to improved intelligence-sharing and stronger collaboration between security forces and civilians.
No Somali military casualties were reported in the latest operation, which officials say further weakens the Khawarij’s ability to regroup. The government has urged residents in nearby areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as security operations intensify.
This latest operation follows a series of offensives by Somali forces, backed by international partners, aimed at dismantling militant cells ahead of planned major operations in remaining strongholds.
