Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Somali National Army, together with courageous local resistance fighters, have revealed photos and footage of vehicles abandoned by fleeing Al-Shabaab militants, which were concealed under trees in an attempt to evade detection.
Following recent direct assaults and targeted airstrikes that killed several key Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters, the remaining militants were forced to flee, leaving behind their vehicles hidden under foliage.
Joint forces tracking the militants discovered the abandoned vehicles and large caches of weapons along the border areas of Hirshabelle regions, where the militants had attempted to hide them in remote bushland.
The operation highlights the growing coordination between government forces and local communities in the fight against terrorism, and the weakening grip of Al-Shabaab in central Somalia.
