Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Isaak Mohamud Mursal, received on Saturday at the Ministry building in the capital Mogadishu dozens of parents of Somali youth currently detained in Mali, where he listened to their concerns and shared updates on the government’s efforts to secure the release of their children.
Hon. Mursal stated that the Ministry is actively engaging with the Malian government through Somalia’s embassy in Addis Ababa and is working closely with the relevant authorities to facilitate the release and safe repatriation of all Somali detainees. He added that a government delegation will soon travel to Bamako to advance these efforts.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia to safeguarding its citizens abroad and noted that over 700 individuals have been evacuated and safely returned home since early 2025.
The Deputy Minister also urged parents to play a proactive role in raising awareness among the youth about the dangers of irregular migration. He called for stronger collaboration with law enforcement and security agencies to combat smuggling networks and prevent further tragedies.
