In a significant step toward strengthening Somalia’s fight against the extremist group Al-Shabaab, the Somali Minister for Defense, Abdiqadir Mohamed Nor, presided over a passing out ceremony on Friday, where two battalions of the Somali National Army were honored for completing their training in Uganda.

The ceremony, held with great pride and anticipation, marked the successful completion of training for 3,000 highly motivated army personnel. Minister Abdiqadir Mohamed Nor expressed his confidence that the newly trained soldiers would inject fresh energy into the battle against Al-Shabaab, enhancing Somalia’s security landscape.

During his address at the ceremony, Minister Abdiqadir Mohamed Nor extended his heartfelt gratitude to the governments of Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), acknowledging their vital contributions in making the training program possible. Both countries played a significant role in providing the necessary resources and support for the successful completion of the training.

The presence of the Ugandan Defense Minister, along with the Ugandan Army General, added to the significance of the occasion. Their attendance demonstrated the deep-rooted collaboration between Uganda and Somalia in their shared mission to combat terrorism and promote stability in the region.

Additionally, the ceremony was honored by the presence of the Deputy Chief of the Somali Army, who joined Minister Abdiqadir Mohamed Nor in commending the soldiers for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving their nation. The Deputy Chief emphasized the importance of the newly trained personnel in fortifying Somalia’s defense capabilities and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.

The passing out ceremony concluded with the official commissioning of the trained battalions, who will now assume their duties on the frontline against Al-Shabaab. Equipped with enhanced skills and a renewed sense of purpose, these soldiers are poised to contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to stabilize Somalia and combat the threat of terrorism.

The graduation of these two battalions marks a notable milestone in Somalia’s journey towards building a stronger and more capable national army. As the nation continues its fight against Al-Shabaab, the international community stands in solidarity, supporting Somalia’s endeavors to restore peace, security, and prosperity to its people.

With the collective efforts of Somalia, Uganda, and the UAE, bolstered by the newly trained army personnel, the fight against Al-Shabaab takes a decisive stride forward, offering hope for a brighter and more secure future for the Somali people.
