MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia convened its weekly ordinary session in Mogadishu on Thursday, with a primary agenda focused on the nation’s security architecture and the ongoing liberation operations. Chaired by the Second Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Jibriil Abdirashid Haji Abdi, the high-level gathering also addressed the Federal Government’s recent initiative to open a corridor for inclusive political dialogue among various stakeholders.

A significant portion of the deliberations was dedicated to the operational situation on the ground. The Cabinet issued a strong statement of commendation to the Somali Armed Forces for their selfless dedication to the defense of the citizenry. The Council specifically highlighted the decisive victory achieved yesterday in the coastal town of Kudhaa, where the National Army successfully repelled a desperate attack by Kharijite militias. The swift and professional response by the security forces reportedly neutralized the threat, protecting the local population from the group’s attempt to inflict harm and creating a secure environment in the Lower Juba region.

Turning to legislative and developmental matters, the Council unanimously approved two key documents essential for the nation’s connectivity and economic integration. The Cabinet endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding Port State Control (PSC) for the Indian Ocean region, a framework submitted by the Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport to enhance maritime safety and regulation. Furthermore, the Council greenlit the National Postal Policy for the period of 2025–2030. Prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Technology, this strategic roadmap aims to modernize the country’s postal services and integrate them into the digital economy over the next five years.

During the proceedings, the Ministers also received comprehensive presentations regarding the Integrated Performance Management Policy, designed to streamline efficiency across government institutions. Additionally, the Council reviewed updates on the National Consultative Political Conference. The “DanQaran” Government reiterated its commitment to this platform, emphasizing the necessity of open engagement to resolve differing political perspectives and advance the country’s democratic processes.
