MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia has approved a significant proposal from the Ministry of Internal Security, appointing Mr. Mustaf Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow as the new Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency. This strategic decision is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance security agencies and fulfill critical national responsibilities.

Mr. Dhuxulow, a distinguished former presidential candidate, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has held various ministerial positions and served as a parliamentarian for two decades. Notably, he served as Somalia’s Minister of Information from January 2014 to January 2015, during which he made substantial contributions in several key areas including:

During his tenure, Mr. Dhuxulow played an important role in fostering bilateral relations and cooperative agreements between Somalia and Ethiopia. His efforts significantly enhanced diplomatic and economic ties, contributing to a more stable relationship between the two nations. This groundwork has laid a strong foundation for continued collaboration and mutual benefits.

Mr. Dhuxulow was also instrumental in the formulation and implementation of media laws that have shaped the media landscape in Somalia. These laws promote freedom of expression while ensuring responsible journalism, creating a balanced environment where the media can thrive while adhering to ethical standards. His contributions have been vital in upholding the integrity and professionalism of Somali journalism.

In addition to his work on media laws, Mr. Dhuxulow led numerous public awareness campaigns aimed at educating the Somali populace on various national issues. These initiatives have enhanced civic engagement and public participation in governance, empowering citizens with the knowledge and understanding needed to actively participate in the democratic process. His efforts in this area have been crucial in fostering a well-informed and engaged society.

The appointment of Mr. Dhuxulow is seen as a crucial step in bolstering the operational capacity of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, which is vital for national security and the management of immigration affairs. His extensive background in governance and his strategic vision are expected to significantly contribute to the agency’s effectiveness and the broader security objectives of Somalia.

The decision shows the government’s commitment to reinforcing its security institutions and ensuring that capable and experienced individuals are at the helm of critical national agencies. The appointment has been welcomed by various stakeholders who anticipate positive developments under Mr. Dhuxulow’s leadership.
