MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The Office of the Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Somalia has announced the successful apprehension and rendition of a fugitive suspect, Jamac Abdi Mahmud, who was wanted by justice agencies on grave charges. The suspect was located and detained in Rwanda and is now in the custody of Somali authorities.
The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that Jama Abdi Mahmud was being sought for crimes including Sexual Assault, extortion and blackmail through indecent video recordings, and other acts of violence committed against Somali women.
The operation was conducted through a vital collaboration between the Office of the Attorney General and the Somali Police Force’s Interpol division. The fugitive was safely flown back to the country, arriving yesterday, October 18, 2025, and was immediately handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The Attorney General’s Office thanked the Governments of Rwanda and the Somali Police, especially the Interpol department, for their quick and effective cooperation in tracking the suspect and ensuring his return to face justice.
The press statement, released today, October 19, 2025, confirmed that the accused will be quickly transferred to the competent court to face trial and accountability under the law. The Attorney General’s Office concluded by emphasizing its commitment to combating crimes involving sexual violence, extortion, and protecting the dignity of Somali women.
