Minnesota, – As the campaign for local leadership in the city of Hopkins, Minnesota continues, Somali-American academic Abdirizak Mohamed Ali has officially entered the race for mayor.
In an interview with the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), Abdirizak described his candidacy as a potential historic milestone for the Somali community in the United States. He emphasized that his victory would represent not only personal success but a collective achievement for Somalis across the diaspora.
Competing against several candidates from diverse backgrounds, Abdirizak stated that Hopkins is in need of leadership that prioritizes public interest and inclusive community development.
“I want to build a local government that listens to its people,” he said. “I care deeply about neighborhood cleanliness, family safety, and ensuring that opportunities are fairly accessible to everyone—business owners, tenants, homeowners, students, and elders alike.”
He concluded by calling on the Hopkins community to support his campaign, promising accountable and equitable services for all residents.
