Beijing, (SONNA) – The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to China, Dr. Hodan Osman Abdi, officially launched a high-level training program titled African Engineering Training on Biometrics, jointly organized by universities from Somalia and China.
The four-day training focuses on cutting-edge biometric identification technologies, including facial and fingerprint recognition, utilizing Python programming and artificial intelligence (AI). The program targets Somali university lecturers, students, and engineers aiming to boost their technical capacity in the growing field of biometrics.
Participating institutions include the Southern University of Science and Technology and Shenzhen Polytechnic University from China, alongside Jamhuuriya University and the Somali National University from Somalia.
Ambassador Dr. Hodan described the training as a significant step toward building the technical capacity of Somali youth and a practical example of the growing educational and technological collaboration between Somalia and China. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with the shared goals outlined during the recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and encouraged Somali youth to pursue technological education to better integrate into the global innovation landscape.
