Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Macallin Abdulle, hosted Mr. Laurent Bukera, the Head of the World Food Programme (WFP) for East Africa, at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu.

The high-level meeting focused on Somalia’s humanitarian crisis, with a particular emphasis on strengthening collaboration between relief organizations and creating an enabling environment for partners to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

Chairman Mahmoud Macallin urged Mr. Bukera, whose visit coincides with growing concerns over the potential impacts of the ongoing drought, to enhance WFP’s cooperation with SoDMA and Somalia’s federal and state-level ministries responsible for relief and disaster management.

Acknowledging the vital partnership between SoDMA and WFP, the Chairman called on all humanitarian agencies and donors to closely monitor the evolving drought situation in Somalia and take prompt action to mitigate its effects.

This meeting highlights the urgent need for coordinated efforts to address Somalia’s pressing humanitarian challenges, including the threat of food insecurity and resource scarcity affecting vulnerable communities.
