Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, has inaugurated a high-level forum aimed at enhancing the role of women in the country’s humanitarian response.
The meeting brought together representatives from international and local organizations, including the UN Women Country Director for Somalia and officials from the Somali NGO Consortium.
The forum officially introduced the Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) Working Group, with discussions centered on its mandate and its contribution to ensuring that humanitarian interventions address the specific needs of women.
Deliberations highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination between Women-Led Organizations (WLOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and SoDMA to ensure inclusive and effective humanitarian response. Participants also agreed on steps to establish continuous engagement between WLOs and GiHA leadership to create new opportunities for collaboration, information-sharing, and amplifying women’s voices in decision-making.
In closing, Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle stressed that the forum marks a positive beginning towards real change, emphasizing that women’s organizations play a crucial role in advancing humanitarian action and community development. He underlined that genuine collaboration is key to overcoming humanitarian challenges and achieving lasting peace and development.
