Balcad, (SONNA) – A high-level delegation led by the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Maallin Abdille, visited Balcad district today to launch a three-month food distribution programme benefiting 5,705 families (equivalent to 34,230 people) in Balcad and Jalalaqsi districts of Hirshabelle State.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Hirshabelle’s Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and acting Minister, Mr. Yusuf Ahmed Yalaxow, along with other regional officials.
Welcoming the delegation, Balcad District Commissioner, Mr. Qaasim Furdug, urged residents to make good use of the assistance, stressing that such initiatives were vital in alleviating the humanitarian challenges facing the district and surrounding areas.
Traditional leader Ugaas Maxamed Wali Xuseen Salaad Islow expressed his appreciation for SoDMA’s continued role in supporting communities affected by recurring droughts and floods, noting the importance of sustained humanitarian action.
In his remarks, Deputy Minister Yusuf Yalaxow commended SoDMA for its efforts in addressing humanitarian needs caused by droughts and natural disasters, while welcoming the new food distribution programme for the two districts.
Commissioner Mahmoud Maallin Abdille underlined that the initiative was aimed at supporting vulnerable families in Balcad and surrounding areas, encouraging the community to benefit fully from the programme, which he said would play a key role in meeting urgent needs.
The initiative, supported by SoDMA and its humanitarian partners, reflects ongoing efforts to provide emergency relief and create lasting livelihood opportunities for Somali communities facing hardship.
