Jalalaqsi, (SONNA) – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, today officially launched the ARC Drought Payout Insurance Project in Jalalaqsi district, Hiiraan region, during a visit leading a high-level delegation.
The initiative, aimed at supporting vulnerable families affected by droughts and natural disasters, is funded by the African Risk Capacity (ARC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The project was earlier inaugurated in Balcad district of Middle Shabelle region.
In total, 5,705 households will benefit from the scheme across both districts, including 2,009 households (12,054 individuals) in Jalalaqsi alone.
The District Commissioner of Jalalaqsi, Mr. Nuur Dheere, warmly welcomed the delegation and praised the project as a lifeline for vulnerable communities. He also commended SoDMA’s leadership for its swift responses to emergencies nationwide.
Commissioner Abdulle expressed gratitude to the Hirshabelle state authorities and Jalalaqsi administration for their collaboration, stressing the historic importance of the initiative, which marks the first time Somali districts have benefited from such a program.
