Mogadishu, SoDMA – The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmud Moalim Abdulle, received a delegation led by Mr. Per Karlsson, the newly appointed Head of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) in Mogadishu.
The delegation also included Ms. Cecelia, as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in disaster preparedness and emergency response.
The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), established with the support of SIDA, is now fully operational and plays a central role in enhancing emergency coordination and disaster management across Somalia. The facility stands as a symbol of the Swedish Government’s sustained commitment to supporting Somalia, particularly in community resilience and institutional development.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of deepening strategic cooperation, improving national coordination mechanisms, advancing anticipatory action frameworks, and strengthening overall emergency response capacity.
The Swedish delegation conducted an assessment visit to various sections of the Center, commending SoDMA for its readiness to respond to emergencies, especially the ongoing drought conditions affecting the country. The delegation also acknowledged SoDMA’s continuous efforts to enhance disaster preparedness systems nationwide.
In his closing remarks, Commissioner Mahmud Moalim Abdulle expressed appreciation for the Swedish Government’s support to disaster management initiatives, highlighting the significance of the close partnership between SoDMA and SIDA in advancing Somalia’s humanitarian and resilience agenda.
