Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and Mr. George Conway, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator, co-chaired a meeting of the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) to address critical challenges facing Somalia’s humanitarian response.
The discussion centered on the implications of US government funding cuts and their impact on ongoing humanitarian efforts. Participants also reviewed the drought response, prioritizing key intervention areas to ensure the most urgent needs are met. The meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination among humanitarian partners under the leadership of SoDMA, with a focus on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the response.
The Somali government highlighted the need to revisit funding modalities and distribution mechanisms to better align with the current humanitarian funding landscape. Adapting to these financial realities is essential to sustaining critical support for vulnerable communities across Somalia.
