The National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has today distributed relief items consisting of mostly food items to 400 families living in areas affected by the El-Niño floods in the South West Administration.

The families who received the relief items today include poor people, women, and vulnerable children who were selected from the districts and camps in the outskirts of Baidoa, which was hit by heavy rains and floods in the past month, resulting in displacement and various casualties.

The families thanked the agency for the relief and praised the Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, who attended the distribution along with officials from SoDMA and the Baidoa Administration.

The Deputy Commissioner for Social Affairs of Baidoa District, Abdullahi Ibrahim, and the Director of Relief Department of the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management of the Federal Government, thanked SoDMA for the relief they provided to the vulnerable families affected by the El-Niño floods.

They also urged other humanitarian agencies and donors to support the flood victims who are still in need of food, water, shelter, and health services.

The Advisor for the rapid response and coordination of the National Disaster Management Agency, Mukhtar Sheikh Hussein, briefed on the distribution of relief items to the vulnerable families living in Baidoa.

He said that SoDMA is committed to providing assistance to those affected by natural disasters and climate change, and that they are working closely with other partners to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people.

He also appealed to the public to take precautionary measures and follow the weather forecasts to avoid further losses and damages caused by floods.
