Mogadishu, SONNA – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has concluded a two-day consultative workshop in Mogadishu, bringing together disaster response officials from federal member states and the Banadir Regional Administration.

The workshop focused on strengthening coordination among humanitarian and disaster management institutions across all levels of government. Participants reviewed SoDMA’s proposed five-year strategic plan, which aims to improve early response, community resilience, and inter-agency collaboration.

Senior Advisor to SoDMA, Mohamed Mukhtar, presented a detailed report highlighting the importance of harmonized planning and efficient coordination mechanisms between federal and state-level agencies. He also emphasized the need for actionable plans that enhance the resilience of Somali communities affected by both natural and man-made disasters.

Representatives from regional states shared situational updates and outlined key challenges, including limited emergency services, communication gaps, and resource constraints.

The event was officially closed by Dr. Ismail Jimale, SoDMA’s Head of Project Development, who thanked all participants for their dedication. He underscored the importance of genuine cooperation between all stakeholders to ensure long-term disaster preparedness and response capabilities nationwide.
