Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Macallin Abdulle, and the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Mr. George Conway, jointly chaired a high-level meeting in Mogadishu. The session brought together SoDMA and several United Nations agencies, including WFP, FAO, UNICEF, IOM, UNFPA, UN Women, UNHCR, UNDP, and UNOCHA, to strengthen disaster management and humanitarian coordination in the country.
The meeting, held at the office of the Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, focused on aligning the operational plans of various humanitarian organizations to improve community resilience and enhance disaster management capabilities. Key discussions centered on streamlining efforts to build the technical capacity of Somali institutions and ensuring the delivery of impactful humanitarian programs.
Both sides committed to fostering stronger partnerships and agreed to hold coordination meetings every four months to maintain effective collaboration among all stakeholders involved in humanitarian and disaster management operations across Somalia.
