Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mr. Mohamud Moallim met with the Deputy Director for Operations of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Ugochi Daniels at the agency’s Headquarters.
The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between SoDMA and IOM to address the critical humanitarian situations in the country. The meeting focused on challenges in humanitarian responses, collaboration opportunities for droughts, conflicts, and climate change, and the urgent need to aid vulnerable populations affected by disasters and displacement.
Ms. Ugochi Daniels praised SoDMA’s efforts in providing rapid humanitarian assistance during challenging conditions in the country. She committed that IOM would continue to support SoDMA and help develop innovative solutions for displaced persons and vulnerable communities.
SoDMA Commissioner Mr. Mahamud thanked Ms. Daniels and IOM for their crucial role in addressing humanitarian issues and enhancing collaboration between their agencies.
“IOM is a key partner in addressing recurring disasters in the country. This collaboration is vital for sustainable and environmentally sound solutions,” said the SoDMA Commissioner.
The meeting ended with an agreement to accelerate joint operations and enhance collaboration to reach Somalis in need of humanitarian support.
