MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, held a productive high-level meeting with the German Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Sebastian Groth, to discuss the nation’s pressing humanitarian challenges.
The extensive dialogue centered on the current humanitarian situation across the country, with a particular focus on the adverse effects of the reduced Deyr seasonal rains. The discussion also provided a comprehensive review of support projects funded by the German government in Somalia, especially those initiatives related to humanitarian aid and disaster prevention.
Commissioner Abdulle provided a detailed overview of SoDMA’s strategic priorities. He emphasized that the agency is placing a strong focus on developing and enhancing systems for disaster risk reduction. The Commissioner noted the critical importance of implementing proactive measures and early warning systems to mitigate the potential losses from natural disasters before they occur.
For his part, Ambassador Groth affirmed Germany’s steadfast partnership with Somalia. He confirmed that his country will continue its robust support, directing assistance toward strengthening Somalia’s disaster management capacities and, crucially, helping the nation reduce its vulnerability to the severe impacts of climate change.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Commissioner Mohamud Moallim extended his sincere gratitude to the German government for its consistent and unwavering support for the Federal Government of Somalia and its people.
