MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, convened a high-level strategic meeting in Mogadishu with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Salah Hassan. The dialogue focused on fortifying the bilateral cooperation between the two nations, specifically aiming to enhance humanitarian coordination and strengthen national capacity for disaster prevention and response.

During the discussions, Ambassador Mohamed Salah Hassan reaffirmed Cairo’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Somali people. The diplomat stated that Egypt is determined to sustain its humanitarian assistance, particularly during critical periods marked by climate-induced crises such as severe droughts, flash floods, and other emergency situations. He emphasized that Egypt views its role in Somalia not just as a donor, but as a long-term partner in stabilizing the region and mitigating the impact of natural disasters.

A central component of the meeting was the formulation of a technical support roadmap. The two officials agreed on implementing comprehensive training programs designed to upgrade the operational proficiency of SoDMA staff. Under this initiative, Egyptian experts will be deployed to provide specialized instruction in meteorology, strategic risk assessment, and advanced disaster management protocols. This knowledge transfer is expected to significantly modernize the agency’s approach to predicting and managing environmental threats.

Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle expressed profound gratitude to the Egyptian government for its consistent and reliable support. He characterized Egypt as a vital strategic partner that plays an essential role in the country’s development and stability. The Commissioner noted that integrating Egyptian expertise into Somalia’s disaster management framework will create a more resilient institution capable of safeguarding the public against future calamities.
