Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Danab Special Forces of the Somali National Army last night conducted a planned, targeted operation in the Buur Eyle area of Buur Hakaba District, Bay Region.
The operation targeted a group of Al-Shabaab terrorist militants who had been under surveillance for some time and were preparing suicide attacks and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs).
As a result of the operation, 22 terrorists were eliminated, and all explosive materials and vehicles intended for attacks were destroyed. Intelligence assessments indicate that the group was planning imminent attacks against Somali civilians and security targets; however, Danab forces successfully neutralised the threat before the plot could be executed.
Following the completion of the operation, Danab Special Forces, supported by international partners, returned safely to their bases.
The Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Army Command commend the courage, professionalism, and vigilance of the Somali Armed Forces and reaffirm that counter-terrorism operations will continue until the Al-Shabaab threat is fully eliminated and lasting peace and stability are secured across the country
