SNA, alongside AUSSOM and international partners delivered a decisive blow to Al-Shabaab militants in Bariire, Lower Shabelle region

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali National Army (SNA), alongside Sector One of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) under the AUSSOM mission and supported by international partners, delivered a decisive blow to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group in the strategic town of Bariire, Lower Shabelle region, following a successful and well-coordinated operation.

During the operation, Al-Shabaab militants attempted to launch a suicide attack using two explosives-laden vehicles targeting the joint forces. However, the troops responded with vigilance and courage, successfully intercepting and safely destroying both vehicles before they could cause any harm.

This operation, part of the broader “Silent Storm” campaign, specifically targeted key Al-Shabaab strongholds around the town, breaking through their defensive positions. Over 70 militants were killed during the assault, and multiple enemy positions were neutralised.

The four-day operation achieved significant gains, despite the loss of two SNA soldiers who were martyred in action. An additional 12 soldiers sustained minor injuries and received prompt medical attention.

The Somali Ministry of Defence commends the bravery, vigilance, and sacrifice of the Somali National Army, the Ugandan forces, and the sustained support from international partners. The Ministry reiterates its firm commitment to eradicating Al-Shabaab from all corners of the country and ensuring long-term peace and stability for the Somali people.
