Kismayo, Somalia – The Speaker of the Somali Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, presided over the Standing Committee Retreat in Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland State.

Opening the retreat, Chairman Sheikh Adan Madobe directed the Standing Committee members to deliberate on the agenda for the upcoming fifth session of the People’s Assembly. The committee’s discussions over the next seven days in Kismayo will shape the schedule and priorities for the People’s Assembly’s fifth session.

In a parallel development, Speaker Madobe held a crucial meeting with the President of the Jubbaland administration, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Islam, along with other key officials. The discussions focused on pressing issues such as military operations in the Juba regions, the restoration and acceleration of security measures, and enhancing cooperation between federal member states to improve social services.

Highlighting a shift in parliamentary procedure, Speaker Madobe announced, “We have decided that the meetings of the standing committee of the assembly will be held inside the country, marking a departure from the previous practice of convening these sessions abroad.”

Echoing the sentiment, President Ahmed Mohamed Islam expressed Jubbaland’s support for hosting the Standing Committee meetings, emphasizing the regional government’s endorsement of this initiative.

The Speaker’s delegation was warmly received upon their arrival in Kismayo, signaling a strong local support for the parliamentary proceedings taking place within Somalia’s borders.
