MOGADISHU (SONNA) – A high-level delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia, led by the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, conducted an oversight visit to the Abdiaziz district in the Banadir region on Wednesday. The mission aimed to assess the operational progress of the ongoing voter card distribution and to mobilize public participation in the country’s transition to direct democracy.
Joining Minister Hosh were the Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur, and the Deputy Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Osman Ma’ow. The collective presence of these senior officials highlights the administration’s unified approach to ensuring the success of the upcoming elections.
The delegation toured various distribution centers within the district, observing the workflows established by the electoral commission and gauging the level of public turnout. Beyond the technical inspection, the visit served as a platform for direct civic engagement. The ministers held open discussions with the residents of Abdiaziz, outlining the critical nature of the current electoral awareness campaign.
During these interactions, the officials stressed that obtaining a voter card is not merely a procedural requirement but a civic duty. They explained that widespread participation is essential to legitimize the new electoral framework.
In their address to the community, the ministers articulated the transformative impact of the “One Person, One Vote” model. They noted that the collection of voter cards is the first step toward a system where citizens can transparently and independently select their representatives for both local municipal councils and national legislative bodies.
“This process is about restoring the power of choice to the people,” the delegation conveyed to the gathered residents. They urged the community to take full advantage of the opportunity to shape the future of their district and the nation through the ballot box.
The visit to Abdiaziz is part of an intensifying government-wide campaign to ensure that the residents of Mogadishu are fully registered and prepared for the historic polls, marking a decisive move away from previous indirect electoral models.
