MOGADISHU, Somalia – The voter registration process for the upcoming local council elections is proceeding with significant momentum across the Benadir region, as the capital prepares for the historic polls scheduled for the 25th of this month. Senior officials from the Federal Government of Somalia have been visiting various districts to encourage public participation and oversee the distribution of voting cards.

Senator Haji Muse Sudi Yalahow, a prominent political figure, collected his voter registration card today in the Kaaraan District. Speaking to the gathered public and press, the Senator urged citizens to fully prepare for the democratic exercise. He emphasized that the nation’s political trajectory has fundamentally shifted. “The country has directed itself towards a one-person, one-vote election system, and there will be absolutely no return to indirect elections,” Senator Muse Sudi declared, signaling a definitive end to the clan-based selection processes of the past.

The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali (Hosh), also addressed the residents of Kaaraan District during the registration drive. He highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering the citizenry. “The government has returned power to the people; the era of appointments is over,” Minister Hosh stated. He called on the public to exercise their new rights responsibly, adding, “Support the political association of your choice with your vote”.

In a parallel development, the former President of Hirshabelle State, Mr. Ali Abdullahi Osoble, collected his voting card in the Heliwaa District, further demonstrating the high-level political backing for the electoral process.

Somalia is on the verge of writing a new chapter in its democratic history. The upcoming vote on the 25th represents a golden opportunity for the residents of the capital to directly elect their local representatives, marking a major milestone in the nation’s state-building journey.
