Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has become the first country to formally respond to the Federal Government of Somalia’s urgent appeal for humanitarian assistance, as the nation faces a severe drought affecting highly vulnerable communities.
The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Macalin Cabdulle, today held a special meeting at the agency’s headquarters with Mr. Yaziid Cabdalla Xamuud, Director of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre – Africa Office. The discussion focused on the worsening drought situation and the rapid delivery of emergency assistance to affected populations.
During the meeting, it was announced that Saudi Arabia has approved immediate humanitarian support targeting nearly 100,000 people, among the hardest hit by the drought.
Mr. Yaziid Cabdalla Xamuud affirmed Saudi Arabia’s longstanding solidarity with the Somali people, reiterating the Kingdom’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian support to the country.
Commissioner Mahamuud Macalin Cabdulle expressed deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its swift intervention and continued support to the Somali people, noting that the assistance will significantly bolster ongoing efforts to aid drought-affected communities.
