Regional Leader of Khawarij Killed in Lower Shabelle Operation

Mogadishu (SONNA) – A well-planned operation by the Somali National Army and international partners has resulted in the death of Mohamed Mire Jama (Abu Abdirahman), the regional leader of the Khawarij, in the Kuunyo Barrow area of the Lower Shabelle region in a significant blow to the Khawarij.

Abu Abdirahman, one of the most senior Khawarij leaders over the past 15 years, played a pivotal role in the robbery and extortion sections and the militia section. He is notably remembered as the founder of the Canole Militia, which forcibly joined the Khawarij Al-Shabaab in 2009.

The Khawarij has confirmed that Mohamed Mire Jama, who held the position of Head of Regions (Wilayaat) and multiple other senior roles within the group, was killed in a drone strike near Kuunyo Barrow in the Lower Shabelle region. Mire was designated as a terrorist by both the United States and the Somali government.

The Somali government, in collaboration with international partners, has been tracking Abu Abdirahman and other high-ranking Khawarij leaders for an extended period. The government has comprehensive information on these individuals, who have been responsible for significant violence and suffering in Somali society.

This operation is part of the Somali government’s broader strategy to eradicate the Khawarij from their remaining strongholds and to alleviate the punishment and suffering they have inflicted on the Somali people.

The successful elimination of Abu Abdirahman marks a critical step in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
