DHUUSAMAREEB, Somalia – The regional forces of Galmudug state have launched a successful operation against the Khawaarij militants in the Xarardheere district of Mudug region, killing 33 of them and capturing their leader and his deputy, officials said on Monday.
The operation, which took place in the Baraag-gurgurrte area, which was the largest stronghold of the Khawaarij, was carried out by the regional forces under the command of the Xarardheere district commissioner Mohamed Yusuf, who spoke to the national media.
“We have inflicted heavy losses on the enemy and liberated the area from their control. We have killed 33 of them and captured their leader and his deputy. We have also seized their weapons and vehicles,” Yusuf said.
He added that the operation was planned after the regional forces received information about an imminent attack by the Khawaarij, who later failed to resist the regional forces, who are known as the Macawiisleyda.
The operation is now continuing in the areas ahead, and the Gorgor forces of the national army, who are in several parts of the southern Mudug region of the Galmudug state, have joined in.
