Mogadishu (SONNA) – Nearly 4,000 students participated in the National University Admission Test for the Somali National University, marking the highest number of candidates in the institution’s history. The Minister of Education, Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir, highlighted the significance of this milestone during the opening ceremony of the entrance examination.
Minister Abdulqadir emphasized that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the university’s re-establishment following its collapse. He noted that 3,924 students sat for the exam, reflecting a growing interest in higher education among Somali youth. The Minister also announced that the university will be enhancing its faculty with new teachers specializing in languages and technical subjects to ensure robust foundational training for incoming students.
“The students must prepare themselves for an international stage,” Minister Abdulqadir urged, stressing the importance of readiness and adaptability in a global academic environment.
Prof. Hassan Osman Ga’al, President of the Somali National University, expressed the institution’s commitment to excellence. He stated that the university aims to extend its reach to all regions of Somalia, ensuring accessibility without financial barriers. Prof. Ga’al reaffirmed the university’s dedication to providing quality education and preparing students to excel in their academic pursuits.
This year’s record turnout is an indication to the resilience and ambition of Somali students, as well as the ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen the nation’s educational infrastructure.
