QC drills two artesian wells in central Somalia to provide safe water

Qatar Charity (QC) has drilled two artesian wells in the villages of Kalyak and Oshoti in the Warshiekh region in central Somalia. The wells will benefit nearly 10,000 people who have been suffering from significant difficulties accessing water sources.

Before the opening of these wells, residents of Kalyak had to travel 10 kilometers to fetch water, while residents of Oshoti traveled 7 kilometers, severely impacting their daily lives and exposing them to health risks associated with unsafe water.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Water and Energy in Hirshabelle State, Saleh Mohammed Hassan, praised QC’s efforts to support the local population, stating that the project arrived at a critical time to address the region’s severe water shortage. He emphasized that the well would significantly improve daily life and provide water for agriculture and livestock.

For his part, director of QC’s office in Somalia, Abdul Fattah Adam, highlighted that QC gives foremost priority to water and sanitation projects, noting that this initiative is part of QC’s ongoing efforts in various parts of Somalia.

In 2023, QC implemented approximately 327 water and sanitation projects in Somalia, benefiting 285,000 people.
