Qatar Rejects Israel-Somaliland Recognition as “Dangerous Precedent,” Urges Israel to Focus on Palestine

DOHA, Qatar – The State of Qatar has expressed its categorical rejection of the announcement regarding mutual recognition between the Israeli occupation authorities and the Somaliland region. In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as a “dangerous precedent” and a unilateral measure that conflicts with the principles of international law, directly infringing upon the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the brotherly Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Ministry emphasized Doha’s firm refusal of any attempts aimed at establishing or imposing “parallel entities” that could weaken the unity of the Somali state. The statement highlighted Qatar’s full support for the legitimate institutions of the Federal Government of Somalia, stressing a keen interest in maintaining the nation’s security and stability while safeguarding the interests of the brotherly Somali people. Officials noted that preserving the cohesion of Somalia is essential for the broader stability of the region.

In a sharp rebuke of the Israeli leadership, the Ministry asserted that it would be more appropriate for the occupation authorities to recognize the State of Palestine a right affirmed by the international consensus rather than engaging in divisive politics in the Horn of Africa. The statement called on Israel to work toward a sustainable end to the war on the Gaza Strip instead of continuing to undermine international legitimacy through “reckless policies” that contribute to fueling tension and instability across the Middle East and East Africa.

Concluding its official communication, the Ministry renewed Qatar’s unwavering position in support of the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the integrity of its lands. It called for strict adherence to international law and respect for resolutions of international legitimacy. Furthermore, Doha urged the global community to consolidate efforts to preserve security and stability in the strategic Horn of Africa region, warning against actions that threaten the delicate balance of the area.
