Mogadishu, Somalia — The Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs has held a public consultation to gather feedback on proposed amendments to the national constitution. The event, which took place in Mogadishu, was led by the Minister of State for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ambassador Ilyaas Sheikh Omar.
The consultation was a joint effort by the country’s three constitutional bodies and focused on proposed changes to Chapters 5 through 9 of the constitution. The primary goal was to engage citizens directly and incorporate their views and ideas into the constitutional review process.
During the event, members of the public had the opportunity to express their opinions and offer suggestions on the proposed amendments. Officials from the constitutional bodies were present to respond to questions and provide clarity on the legal framework.
This public forum is part of a broader commitment to ensuring that the constitutional review process is inclusive, transparent, and reflects the will of the Somali people. By seeking direct input from citizens, the government aims to strengthen national ownership of the constitution and build a legal framework that is both legitimate and durable.
