Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, held talks with H.E. He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the historic friendship between Somalia and the People’s Republic of China, stressing Somalia’s commitment to transforming this longstanding relationship into practical cooperation that directly benefits the Somali people.
He noted that the recent elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership marked a historic milestone for both nations, underscoring the need to translate it into tangible outcomes. He also reiterated Somalia’s firm support for the One-China Principle as part of its commitment to strengthening political trust between the two countries.
Prime Minister Hamza highlighted Somalia’s readiness to expand cooperation in key sectors including fisheries, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and human capacity development. He further emphasized the progress Somalia has achieved in recent years, such as debt relief, economic reforms, security stabilization, and its accession to the East African Community (EAC) and membership of the United Nations Security Council, all of which, he said, enhance Somalia’s credibility on the international stage.
For his part, Vice Chairman He Wei commended Somalia’s resilience and reiterated China’s readiness to work closely with Somalia to implement the agreements reached during meetings between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President Xi Jinping. He underlined China’s continued support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
