The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, today received in his office a high-level delegation from the Arab League, led by Dr. Mohamed Walad Acmar, Secretary General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the Arab League, particularly in the areas of education, culture, science, and the development and promotion of the Arabic language.

Prime Minister Hamza briefed the delegation on the overall situation in the country, highlighting the significant progress achieved in security stabilization, political processes, and institutional reconstruction. He also outlined ongoing reforms aimed at improving the national education system and raising academic standards.

For their part, the Arab League delegation emphasized the importance of deepening educational cooperation and commended Somalia’s renewed engagement in international educational organizations. They noted the country’s steady progress in strengthening education standards and affirmed that the Arab University stands ready to provide Somali students with expanded educational opportunities and scholarship programs.

Discussions also covered practical steps to further promote the Arabic language, which is Somalia’s second official language and holds particular importance due to its central role in knowledge, Islamic heritage, and Somalia’s longstanding relations with the Arab world.

The meeting underscored Somalia’s commitment to expanding regional partnerships in education and culture as part of its broader national development agenda.
