Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has officially launched the annual National Quran Recitation Competition in Mogadishu.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the vital role of Somali scholars in nurturing a generation of Quran memorizers (Huffadh) who uphold and teach the true values of Islam based on the Quran and Sunnah. He stressed the need to counter those who distort the teachings of Islam and justify violence against innocent people.

“This Quran competition strengthens the bond within our society and promotes unity among Muslim communities. It reminds us of the immense importance of living by the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, which guide us to preserve our faith and obey Allah’s commands,” said Prime Minister Hamza.

He also urged Somali scholars to play a leading role in the fight against extremist groups, working to liberate Somalia from their influence and dismantle false ideologies that misrepresent the true essence of Islam.
