Mogadishu, SONNA — The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, today received in his office the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, along with his Deputy, Mouktar Ousman Karie.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Hamza welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador and briefed the AUSSOM leadership on Somalia’s ongoing military operations to eliminate the Kharijites terrorist groups. He highlighted the substantial progress made by Somali security forces and reiterated the government’s strong commitment to the fight against terrorism.
The Prime Minister also expressed Somalia’s appreciation for the continued support of African Union forces operating under the AUSSOM mandate, recognizing their critical contribution to peace, stability, and the country’s broader state-building efforts.
Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, in turn, thanked Prime Minister Hamza for the warm welcome and praised the Somali Government and people for their resilience and dedication to national reconstruction and security. He reaffirmed the African Union’s unwavering support for the Somali-led security transition, emphasizing AUSSOM’s role in ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities to the Somali Armed Forces in line with the Transition Plan.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between Somalia and the African Union and the shared commitment to a peaceful, stable, and self-reliant Somalia.
