New York, SONNA – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hamza Abdi Barre, held a significant meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, during the United Nations General Assembly session.
The discussions centered on enhancing the relationship and cooperation between Somalia and the United Nations, particularly as Somalia prepares to assume a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term.
Key topics included the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the future plans for the UN office in Somalia. Secretary General Guterres expressed his support for the Somali government’s proposals, especially in light of the upcoming withdrawal of African Union troops from Somalia.
