MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has extended his congratulations to the Somali public and the aviation community on the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day. The Prime Minister highlighted the substantial progress the country has made in regaining control of its airspace, ensuring flight safety, and expanding international connectivity.
In his statement, Prime Minister Barre noted that this day offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on the successful journey of reviving Somalia’s civil aviation sector. He emphasized that the restoration of these services has been a critical driver for national economic growth and stability, while serving as a powerful symbol of the nation’s capacity to rebuild and manage essential infrastructure.
A cornerstone of this success, the Prime Minister pointed out, was achieved in 2023 when Somalia officially reached Class A status in Air Navigation Services. This classification represents the highest standard of safety and operational quality in airspace management, a historic milestone that confirms Somalia’s ability to manage its skies alongside the world’s most advanced nations.
The Prime Minister commended the dedication of the professionals working within the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) and the Ministry of Transport, whose efforts have transformed the sector from a state of collapse to a fully functioning, internationally recognized system.
As Somalia continues to modernize its airports and expand its aviation capabilities, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining these high standards and further integrating the country into the global aviation network.
