ASWAN, EGYPT (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, delivered a key address today at the 5th Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development in Africa, held in Aswan, Egypt. The conference, themed “Africa’s Agency for Development and Transformation in a Contemporary World,” served as a platform for the Prime Minister to assert that Somalia has embarked on a path toward lasting development, having overcome significant security, economic, and political hurdles.

The Prime Minister highlighted the concrete successes achieved by the government, noting major milestones such as:

  • The rebuilding of state institutions and national governance structures.
  • The achievement of the HIPC Debt Relief Completion Point.
  • The lifting of the longstanding arms embargo on the country.
  • Significant improvements in the security sector, particularly in the fight against the Khawaarij extremist groups.
  • The elevation of Somalia’s diplomatic ties with regional and international partners.

Prime Minister Barre also formally presented Somalia’s National Transformation Framework for 2025–2030. This ambitious plan is centered on six core pillars designed to reshape the nation’s future:

  1. Reconstruction and economic infrastructure development.
  2. Economic growth and job creation.
  3. Enhancing social services, including education and healthcare.
  4. Food security and agricultural development.
  5. Environmental protection and the promotion of clean energy.
  6. Transparency in governance and genuine governmental accountability.

“Somalia today is a country that has emerged from conflict and destruction, and is proceeding along the path of sustained progress and lasting prosperity, ensuring no one is left behind in the national effort to build a united future,” said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre concluded by thanking the Government of Egypt for its continuous role in supporting Somalia, particularly in the areas of peace, reconstruction, and cooperation, noting the historical and strengthening fraternal ties between the two nations.
