Dar es Salaam, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, attended an extraordinary summit of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), focusing on finding solutions to the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The President emphasized the significance of this summit for the stability of the region, highlighting Somalia’s commitment as a member of the United Nations Security Council to strengthen Africa’s role in addressing the continent’s challenges.

“The conflict in eastern DRC is a humanitarian disaster that requires urgent action to achieve lasting peace. Joint diplomacy from both organizations is a key factor in reducing tensions, and solutions must be sought through dialogue and understanding, rather than through warfare,” he stated.

The President reaffirmed Somalia’s support for the peace initiatives led by the EAC and SADC and expressed the country’s readiness to contribute to resolving the conflict in the DRC, leveraging its experience in reconciliation and peace building.
