Baidoa, (SONNA) — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by the Interim Leader of the South West State, H.E. Jibriil Abdirashid Haji, took part in a large event where women from the South West State demonstrated their support for the implementation of one-person, one-vote elections.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights, highlighted the vital role women play in advancing democracy, peace, and the building of a modern state grounded in the will of the Somali people.
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh outlined the government’s plan to implement direct elections, stating that the South West State will become the first region in the country where one-person, one-vote elections are realized. He emphasized the government’s firm commitment to ensuring that Somali citizens exercise their constitutional right to vote in direct elections.
The President also called on all communities in the South West to strengthen unity, mutual respect, and support for the country’s democratization process. He further clarified that no charges are being pursued against former officials and leaders of the previous South West administration, urging all sides to move beyond past disputes and work together toward a unified future.
