Mogadishu, (SONNA) – In a momentous occasion, The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud personally welcomed the returning troops who were on training for five years in Eritrea.

“I have today received our brave troops who returned home from Eritrea to scale up our relentless efforts to eliminate Kharajite terrorists. Their reassuring courage fills me with belief, along with every other Somali that our homeland’s liberation for a lasting peace is imminent,” President Mohamud said in post in X platform formally known as Twitter.

The President’s visit to the Air Force’s Headquarters marked a significant milestone in the repatriation of these dedicated soldiers.

Addressing the troops, President Hassan expressed his deep appreciation for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices. He said, “You have paid a price higher than that of ordinary soldiers. You endured hardships and suffering, and it is our duty to offer you a brief respite to reunite with your friends and families, to ease their hearts, and to convey that you left for the country’s cause and have now returned to safeguard our homeland.”

In a move to honor their service, the President announced that the troops would be granted one month of leave, allowing them to reconnect with their loved ones and providing them with a well-deserved break. Additionally, the government pledged to provide bonuses to support the soldiers’ travels within the city, recognising the sacrifices made by these brave men to defend their nation. This gesture reaffirms the government’s commitment to the welfare of its troops and their vital role in preserving national interests.
