MOGADISHU, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia has called on the Council of Ministers to intensify their role in the ongoing operations against the Khawarij, who are being driven out of the country.

The president chaired the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday, where he briefed them on the progress and achievements of the recent military campaigns against the extremist groups.

He said that the second phase of the operations had resulted in great victories, and praised the security forces and the local people for their remarkable improvements in the battlefields.

He also said that several areas that had been under the enemy’s oppression for a long time had been liberated, and urged the ministers to continue their support for the operations.

The president also stressed the importance of finalizing the Federal Constitution for Somali statehood, and said that it was necessary to have accountable and law-abiding institutions.

Prime Minister Hamse also told the meeting that the government had formed two ministerial committees, one for security coordination and one for monitoring operations to eradicate the Khawarij, which would contribute to the process of restoring the country.

The Council of Ministers approved legal amendments and international agreements on economy, health, media and the establishment of the Somali religious Scholars Council.
