MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has extended a heartfelt congratulatory message to the government and people of Djibouti on the occasion of their 47th anniversary of independence. The President’s message not only conveyed warm felicitations but also strongly emphasized Somalia’s commitment to further strengthening the profound historical relations that bind the two Horn of Africa nations.

In his address, President Mohamud acknowledged with profound gratitude the pivotal role that Djibouti has consistently played in supporting the people of Somalia. He particularly highlighted Djibouti’s unwavering solidarity and practical assistance during the challenging periods that Somalia has navigated. This consistent support, ranging from humanitarian efforts to contributions in regional peace initiatives, forms a significant chapter in the shared history of the two countries.

President Mohamud’s statement reiterated the Federal Government of Somalia’s steadfast dedication to reinforcing the deep-rooted bonds of brotherhood, neighborliness, and comprehensive cooperation with Djibouti. These enduring ties are viewed as more than mere diplomatic formalities; they are perceived as the fundamental bedrock for fostering and sustaining peace and stability across the entire Horn of Africa region. Both nations recognize that their mutual prosperity and security are intrinsically linked, making robust bilateral cooperation an imperative.

The relationship between Somalia and Djibouti is steeped in a shared cultural heritage, common language elements, and historical experiences. Djibouti, having gained its independence on June 27, 1977, has always maintained close ties with Somalia, often serving as a vital partner in regional development and security dialogues. President Mohamud’s congratulatory message serves to reaffirm this enduring partnership and to set a course for continued collaborative endeavors.

As Djibouti celebrates nearly five decades of sovereignty, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s message resonates as a powerful affirmation of solidarity from Somalia. It signals a shared future where both nations continue to work hand-in-hand, leveraging their historical closeness to address contemporary challenges and to build a more secure and prosperous Horn of Africa for all its inhabitants.
