Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, chaired a high-level meeting with the leaders of Southwest, Hirshabelle, and Galmudug States. The gathering served as a preliminary step towards the President’s recent call for unified national efforts to intensify operations aimed at eradicating Al-Shabaab militants.
The meeting featured briefings on the country’s current security situation and ongoing military operations. President Hassan Sheikh commended the regional leaders for their pivotal role in organizing and coordinating the fight against Al-Shabaab, acknowledging their leadership in mobilizing local support.
Discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming national reconciliation forum recently proposed by the President. The forum aims to foster national unity and consolidate the collective resolve to defeat the extremist threat. The leaders agreed that success in this war would mark the beginning of a new era of peace and progress for the Somali people.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized that the significant gains made against the terrorists were the result of unwavering public support for the Somali National Army and local forces. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening national cohesion as a foundation for achieving a decisive victory over the ruthless enemy.
In line with this vision, the President and federal member state leaders agreed to move forward with an inclusive approach that values the input and support of scholars, intellectuals, political figures, and the broader society. This united front is seen as essential to fulfilling the national goal of completely eliminating Al-Shabaab from the country.
