Mogadishu, SONNA – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today inspected the “Oruc Reis” oil exploration ship. The inspection followed the official completion of extensive oil exploration activities off the coast of Somalia, an endeavor poised to dramatically alter the nation’s economic landscape.

President Mohamud’s visit to the exploration vessel marks an important moment in Somalia’s journey towards resource self-sufficiency. The “Oruc Reis,” a key player in this strategic venture, has concluded its operations, paving the way for the evaluation of potential hydrocarbon reserves that could provide a substantial boost to the Somali economy.

During his inspection, President Mohamud extended profound commendation to the Turkish partners and all stakeholders involved in the exploration efforts. He articulated a strong belief that the forthcoming results from this extensive geological survey will not only bring about significant positive changes within Somalia but also further solidify the already robust cooperative relations between Somalia and Turkey. This statement highlights the deep trust and mutual benefit that characterizes the partnership between the two nations.

“This is an important achievement that strengthens our goal of Somalia fully utilizing its resources, transforming them into economic opportunities and social development,” President Mohamud stated emphatically. He further praised Turkey’s consistent support, noting, “The Turkish government and people have always been at the forefront of measures that show that Somalia can be invested in.” This recognition speaks to Turkey’s enduring commitment to Somalia’s reconstruction and development, often pioneering investments in sectors where others hesitated.

The President reiterated his government’s relentless efforts to revitalize the country’s economy through the strategic utilization of Somalia’s abundant natural resources. He stressed that these resources, encompassing various sectors beyond oil, possess the inherent capacity to address the nation’s pressing circumstances and foster sustainable growth. The emphasis on domestic resource utilization aligns with Somalia’s broader vision of self-reliance and sustained prosperity, moving away from over-dependence on external aid.

The completion of this phase of oil exploration and the President’s direct involvement send a powerful message about Somalia’s determination to realize its economic potential. The anticipated findings from the “Oruc Reis” exploration are eagerly awaited, as they hold the promise of ushering in a new chapter of economic development and stability for the Horn of Africa nation.
