MOGADISHU (SONNA) β The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, conducted an official inspection of the headquarters of the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) on Saturday to personally assess the progress of its critical functions and modernization efforts.
During the visit, the President received a comprehensive briefing from the Minister of Internal Security, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, and the Director-General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Mr. Mustafe Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow. The officials detailed the agency’s strategic advancements in modernizing its services, initiatives to decentralize access for citizens across the country, and overall operational developments.
Addressing the agency’s leadership and staff, President Hassan Sheikh underscored the paramount importance of their mandate. He issued firm directives on the strict implementation of all relevant laws, ensuring full transparency in the services provided to citizens, and intensifying the fight against human trafficking, terrorism, and all forms of illegal migration. The President stressed the critical need to secure the nation’s entry points to prevent criminals from easily entering the country.
“The Immigration and Citizenship Agency is central to securing the country’s security and borders,” President Mohamud stated. “This, in turn, depends on how you serve Somali citizens and your diligence in verifying the data of every individual entering the country.”
The President commended the agency for the significant achievements made, particularly highlighting the successful implementation of the modern e-Visa system, which has streamlined the process for entry permits.
Furthermore, President Mohamud praised the adoption of the new PISCES (Personal Identification, Secure Comparison and Evaluation System). This advanced system is a modern border management tool that enhances national security by utilizing biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial recognition, to manage borders and identify individuals.
