Mogadishu, SONNA – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in the 43rd Extraordinary Virtual Assembly of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) today, focusing on the security and political crisis in South Sudan.

During the session, President Mohamud underscored Somalia’s unwavering support for peace and stability in South Sudan and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

“Somalia unequivocally calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation, and a return to dialogue. Peace and stability must be prioritized to safeguard the future of the South Sudanese people,” President Mohamud stated.

The IGAD summit convened regional leaders to discuss urgent measures aimed at preventing further deterioration of the situation in South Sudan. President Mohamud reiterated Somalia’s commitment to regional peace and urged all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve the crisis peacefully.

Somalia, as a member of IGAD, remains actively engaged in regional peace initiatives and continues to advocate for diplomatic solutions to conflicts within the Horn of Africa.
