President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Addresses the Nation on the Start of Ramadan

Mogadishu, SONNA – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Muslims worldwide and the Somali people in particular on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. In a special message, the President also honored the of the Somali Armed Forces, who are observing Ramadan while leading the fight to liberate the country from terrorism.

“Greetings to Somalia and the Muslim world as we embark on this blessed month of Ramadan,” President Mohamud said in his address to the nation. “May Allah accept our prayers, our good deeds, and our fasting. May He purify our souls and unite us in love and brotherhood.”

The President emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a time for mercy, compassion, and community support. He called on those blessed with wealth to assist the less fortunate, including the displaced, orphans, and those facing economic hardships. “This is a month of mercy and caring. Let us not forget those in need. Allah says, ‘Have mercy on each other, and Allah will have mercy on you.'”

President Mohamud also paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the Somali Armed Forces, particularly the veterans who are fasting while defending the nation. “I especially congratulate the brave soldiers of our Armed Forces, who are observing Ramadan at the forefront of the fight to liberate our country from terrorism. Their courage and dedication inspire us all.”

The President reiterated the importance of national unity and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges. He urged Somalis to stand together in support of the government and security forces in their efforts to eradicate terrorism. “Our country has been invaded by a foreign terrorist ideology that has caused havoc for the past 18 years. My fellow countrymen, let us stand together and support our government and security forces in their war against terrorism.”

While acknowledging the support of the international community, President Mohamud stressed that Somalis must take the lead in defeating terrorism. “The international community has supported us, but we must do more to rid our country of this Khawaarij menace. They hide among us; let us identify them and put an end to their reign of terror and violence.”

The President also expressed hope for reconciliation and guidance for those who have strayed from the path of peace. “May Allah purify our souls and guide those who have gone astray back to our community so they may contribute constructively to society.”

Concluding his address, President Mohamud wished the nation a peaceful and blessed Ramadan. “May Allah make us patriotic and protect our country. We have every right to live in peace and enjoy what our beloved land has to offer. Thank you all, and Ramadan Kareem.”

The President’s message echoed themes of unity, compassion, and resilience, setting a tone of hope and determination as Somalia enters the holy month of Ramadan.
